Carl Guest

Carl Guest is a dedicated Chartered Physiotherapist who holds a master’s degree in Physiotherapy from Keele University.

His advanced training equips him with specialist expertise in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. 

Carl brings a wealth of experience from across the NHS, having worked in key departments including respiratory medicine, stroke rehabilitation, and musculoskeletal outpatients. He has also built on this foundation through his work in private practice, notably in a clinic specialising in the management of scoliosis—deepening his understanding of complex spinal issues.  

Carl adopts a hands-on, evidence-based approach to physiotherapy, utilising a combination of manual therapy techniques such as joint mobilisations, manipulations, soft tissue massage, and tailored exercise programs to deliver the best possible outcomes for his patients.  

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Carl enjoys playing and watching rugby, cricket, and football. His passion for sport fuels his particular interest in sports rehabilitation and performance optimisation. 

Matt Franklin

Matt Franklin is an experienced Chartered Physiotherapist who qualified in 2005 and has dedicated his career to musculoskeletal physiotherapy within the NHS.

He currently works as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner, where he specialises in the assessment, triage, and management of complex musculoskeletal conditions. 

With a deep understanding of patient care and rehabilitation, Matt is known for developing comprehensive, personalised treatment plans that address both the immediate and long-term needs of his patients. His clinical expertise and calm, supportive approach make him a trusted practitioner for those dealing with persistent or challenging musculoskeletal issues. 

Matt’s commitment to clinical excellence ensures that his patients receive high-quality, evidence-based care tailored to their individual goals and lifestyles.  

Outside of his clinical role, Matt is a keen fitness enthusiast. He enjoys high-intensity interval training (HIIT), fat biking, and has recently taken up tennis. He values a balanced lifestyle, making time for outdoor adventures and staying active, all while enjoying quality time with his family. 

Alex Bentley

Alex Bentley is a skilled and dynamic Chartered Physiotherapist who brings a strong academic background and diverse clinical experience to the team.

He holds a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy from York St John University, following an undergraduate degree in Sports Therapy. Furthering his expertise, Alex completed a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice at Manchester Metropolitan University. 

Alex’s career spans both elite sports and NHS healthcare. He has worked as an academy physiotherapist with Wigan Athletic Football Club, where he gained hands-on experience managing a wide range of sports-related injuries. Currently, he serves as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner and Physiotherapist at Southport and Ormskirk NHS Hospital, where he supports patients with complex musculoskeletal conditions. 

With a background that bridges sports performance and clinical rehabilitation, Alex offers a comprehensive approach to injury prevention and recovery. His patients benefit from his evidence-based treatments, proactive mindset, and passion for helping individuals achieve their physical goals—whether in everyday life or athletic performance. 

Katie Mann

MCSP, Grad Dip Phys, HCPC Registered, MPOGP

Katie Mann is a chartered physiotherapist with over 30 years of experience, specializing in pelvic floor health for both men and women.

She has worked extensively in the NHS and private sectors, addressing issues such as bladder and bowel dysfunction, prolapse, sexual dysfunction, and pelvic pain.

Katie is a full member of Pelvic, Obstetric & Gynaecological Physiotherapy (POGP) and has served as its chair for four years. She currently sits on the advisory board for NHS England and has appeared on various media platforms, including BBC Radio 4’s “Woman’s Hour” and ITV’s “This Morning,” to promote pelvic health awareness.

Katie offers comprehensive assessments and individualized treatment programs, incorporating EMG biofeedback and specialized exercise rehabilitation. 

Kate Maguire

BSc (Hons), MCSP, HCPC Registered. Qualified in Acupuncture 

Kate Maguire is an experienced Chartered Physiotherapist with a strong academic and clinical background.

She graduated from Coventry University in 2003 with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy and has since undertaken postgraduate MSc modules in spinal triage, joint injection therapy, and First Contact Practitioner (FCP) development. She is also a fully qualified acupuncture practitioner. 

Kate currently works for Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, based in St Helens, where she serves as a First Contact Practitioner. In this advanced role, she provides expert musculoskeletal assessment and care as the first point of contact in primary care. Her role spans a variety of services including joint injection clinics, leading the fibromyalgia care pathway, and contributing to the multidisciplinary community pain service—often all within a single week. 

Kate’s career has been rich and varied, with experience in private practice both in the North West and previously in Solihull, as well as working with a rugby team early in her career. Her broad clinical exposure and holistic approach make her a trusted clinician in both NHS and private settings. 

Outside of work, Kate is passionate about staying active. She enjoys running, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), and playing netball when time allows. She also loves spending time with her daughters and recently began helping to coach her daughter’s netball team—combining her love of sport with family life. 

Ju Smith

BSc Biomed Science, Level 5 Clinical & Sports Therapist

Ju Smith started her career as a biomedical scientist, working in both biochemistry labs in the NHS as well as at Guy’s drug research unit in London.

She has been in the fitness industry since 1999 where she started as a gym instructor before becoming a personal trainer working with a wide range of clients in London and the southeast before moving to Merseyside in 2007. She qualified as a sports therapist in 2018, working her way up to a level 5 clinical and sports therapist. 

Ju offers hands-on treatments that help relieve muscle aches and pains, improve joint mobility, and accelerate the body’s natural healing processes. Sessions are tailored to each individual and may include: 

  • Sports/deep tissue massage 
  • Dry cupping 
  • Dry needling 
  • Tecar electrotherapy 
  • Strapping and taping 

She also works with a wide range of athletes providing pre and post-event preparation and recovery treatments.
